(5) Your garden may already have some well-grown plants. Pruners, or what are commonly referred to as large scissors, will help in removing the dead parts of the plants. This ensures that the plants stay alive for a longer time and grow well.

(6) Some uninvited guests to any garden are “weeds”! A gardening tool known as hoe (has a flat blade) will get rid of them quickly!

(7) Sometimes, you may find large trees already present in the front yard of the new house you have moved into. The yard gets filled up with fallen leaves in fall season. A rake would be necessary to clean up the place.

(8) A leaf blower could be added to your store, to clear up the extra leaves which have not been picked up by a rake. Actually, the leaf blower can be used by itself as it functions faster.

Now that you have collected all your gardening tools, how do you ensure that they stay ‘in condition’ for a longer time?

(1) Every tool has to be cleaned after use and before it is put back in storage. The tools will remain functional.

(2) The tools have to be put away during wintertime.

(3) Before storing them for the winter season, coat the tools with oil or wax. Moisture will not affect them.

(4) With the return of spring, your gardening tools are ready to be employed again. The screws on the tools have to be tightened before use. This is a practice which should be followed regularly every gardening season.

A few last tips:

(1) Every species of plant has to be treated differently. So do collect information about each one before planting them.

(2) Do not keep too tight a budget when it comes to gardening tools. Have a long-term vision and do not grudge spending just that little bit extra.

(3) Forged tools are longer-lasting than ordinary tools, though they are more expensive.

Hollywood After the Winter Hiatus by John Parks

This has certainly been an extensive fall season. Usually most of the prime time shows enter their winter hiatuses the week after Thanksgiving. This year, however, many shows are finishing out a contract that began more than a year ago.

Many people are upset by the cancellations of Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money on ABC. While these are certainly smart and entertaining shows (absolutely better than the reality shows that might replace them), it is important to remember that many shows that began last fall were picked up for a full season. A full season means that a show is guaranteed to have at least 20-30 weeks of on air time. When the writer’s strike lasted as long as it did, many television show producers chose to not show their shows remaining episodes over the summer (when they would most likely not get watched, since television watching drops dramatically during the summer months) and, instead, air them in the fall of this year.

It is heartbreaking that so much smart television is being cancelled and so quickly. My Own Worst Enemy has gotten the axe on NBC as has Lipstick Jungle. Ironically, Knight Rider has not been cancelled and that show is so awful that you can’t force people to watch it!

So what does the Hollywood landscape look like for us television viewers after the winter Hiatus?

Hollywood has promised that there will be quite a few reality show replacements of the shows that are finishing out their first season run and not being picked up. Winter is famous for mid season replacement testing and this year is no different. First, though, let’s take a look at the Hollywood shows that will be returning: Lost starts up in January as does Scrubs (airing now on ABC). Obviously American Idol will back, as will 24.

There will also be many midseason replacements in Hollywood this year including: The Philanthropist, an Office Spin-off, Kings, and Merlin all on NBC. ABC is moving around its lineup to accommodate back to back episodes of According to Jim and moving Private Practice to the timeslot after Grey’s Anatomy and putting Life on Mars after Lost.

Remember that it is not always a good idea to get attached to midseason replacement shows in Hollywood. Grey’s Anatomy certainly managed to hit the big time as have a few others, but it is rare that a midseason replacement is ever able to find the audience it needs. The winter and spring television seasons are also the dream time for mini-series and special reports.
Television has become a fickle business (really, how is Knight Rider surviving the hiatus cut) and it is important to remember that the reality television of today could turn into tomorrow’s high concept drama. Of course, the opposite could also happen. There has to be a reason that Deal or No Deal was aired so many nights a week in 2006!

Not only is September time to go back to school but it can be a great time to get married.
The too-hot days of summer have passed and you’re left with warm afternoons and cool evenings, perfect for your wedding reception. Fall colors lean more to the rich earthy tones and your menu can be a hearty fall feast.

Autumn wedding invitations can range in colors from a warm yellow to deep wine to earthy reds and browns. As the leaves are changing colors you can match those colors with your wedding invitations. Whether you choose a classical and elegant invention or a modern look, you can use these colors of the season for your September wedding.

September has a couple of holidays you should look out for. Labor Day is the first Monday in September. This might be a great time to have your wedding and take advantage of the extra day off. If you plan to have our wedding around Labor Day, just make sure to note that with your wedding invitation as some might not realize the date of the holiday.

Rosh Hashanah (September 19-20, 2009 and September 9-10, 2010) and Yom Kippur (September 28, 2009 and September 18, 2010) will occur in September also. While these are never on the same day on a conventional calendar, you should be aware of these holidays as your Jewish guests may not be able to attend a wedding if it falls on any of these days.

September is also back to school time. If you’re planning on including children as flower girls or ring bearers, you should talk to their parents early to make sure they can make it to your wedding.

Ceremony and reception

While the days may still be warm, the nights in September can be chilly. Your best bet is either an early outdoor ceremony earlier in the afternoon and then a reception inside or an all indoor ceremony. Make a note in your wedding invitation about your ceremony and reception plans so guests can be prepared and dress accordingly.

Pepper some autumn flavors in your reception menu. A salad with roasted pumpkin seeds or a butternut squash soup can be a perfect start to an autumn meal. Entrees should be hot and hearty to keep your guests warm during the start of this chilly season. A coffee bar might be a nice touch to enjoy with your wedding cake, too.

At the bar, stock a couple of hearty red wines. You might also want to make your signature cocktail a warm drink – a hot apple cider perhaps? Or offer the apple cider as a chilled drink while the sun is still up and then offer a hot apple cider as an after dinner treat.

The chill in the air in September can be the perfect way to make your reception a warm cozy affair. Take your cues from the colors of the season and you’ll have a wonderful fall reception. Be mindful not to over lap with the other special occasions in September and you’ll have a wedding reception that will be long remembered.
